Bay of Plenty Beaches

Petersfield is perfectly located midway between two of the Bay of Pleanty's finest beaches – Mount Maunganui Beach and Waihi Beach – both just a 30 minute drive away and perfect for a day trip.

At both of these very popular beaches you’ll find miles of white sand and blue surf. Take your surfboards and body boards because the waves can be pumping!

At Mount Maunganui you’ll find a dynamic beach culture and a cosmopolitan lifestyle. There are Oceanside cafes and bars and great shopping. You can try kite surfing or Blo-Karting (land-based sail craft) when the winds up, or just dig your toes into the sand and enjoy the sun. Walk around (or up!) the towering Mount Maunganui for excellent views and great picnic spots.

Opposite the beach is the tranquil harbour at Pilot’s Bay, an excellent spot for swimming (no waves), kayaking or fishing off the main jetty.

Waihi Beach

Waihi Beach stretches from Orokawa Bay in the north to Bowentown and nearby Athenree. The coastal belt is most picturesque with walkways, parks and scenic sights. Tucked on the coast and connected to SH25 by looping roads, its first entrance is from Beach Road, about 2.5 km out of Waihi. Along the way is a Waihi Arts Centre & Museum.

After an exciting and exhausting day at the beach, it’s just a short drive back to the peace and tranquility of Petersfield
